It offers up a superb aromatic array of pain grille, pencil lead, espresso, incense, black cherry, and blackberry. Packed and stacked, this dense, masculine effort (perhaps the owner should have sired sons) demands 8-10 years of additional bottle age. There is tons of extract and a boatload of tannin but it has the balance to age gracefully in the manner of a top-flight Bordeaux. Its prime drinking window will extend from 2016 to 2030+. 94 Parker Punkte. 92 Peñin Punkte. Kaum hatte die Familie Eguren ihr Gut Numanthia im Jahre 2007 an die Gruppe LVMH verkauft, erwarb sie - gleichwohl in der D.O. TORO - herausragende Parzellen in den Gebieten Zamora, Valdefinjas und Villabuena. Die Rebparzellen liegen auf einer Höhe von 650-800m ü. M. und dies auf vorwiegend sandigem Boden. Alle Rebberge sind mit der Tinta de Toro – eine mit der Tempranillo verwandte Rebsorte – bepflanzt. Dabei sind die jüngsten Reben bereits 15-60 Jahre alt und werden für den Almirez verwendet; aus den Rebstöcken mit ihren 60-100 Jahren werden die beiden Exklusivitäten Victorino und Alabaster gewonnen. Die Familie Eguren führt mit einer bezeichnenden Konsequenz ihr Tradition der Sorgfalt und Qualität weiter. Das Traubengut wird ausschliesslich handverlesen und in kleinen Boxen gesammelt um ein erstes Zerquetschen zu vermeiden. Der Ertrag liegt bei 10-20hl/ha. Gereift wird in französischer Eiche. Die Resultate lassen nicht zu wünschen übrig und werden unter dem Namen Teso la Monja produziert und vertrieben. Alabaster - 16-monatige Reifung in französischer Eiche. Ausgesprochen aromatischer, duftender, kräftiger und nicht minder eleganter Wein. Nase von Pflaumen, schwarze Beeren und Kirschenaroma. Mineralisch, gut eingebundenes Tannin und im Finale sehr angenehm. Die Familie Eguren ist versucht, ihren früheren Numanthia zu überbieten. Und wir sehen sie schon auf der Zielgerade... Jetzt sichern und in den Keller legen! Trinkreife jetzt, aber besser ab 2012 The Wine Advocate: The 2007 Alabaster came from pre-phylloxera vines yielding a miniscule half ton of fruit per acre. It went through ML in new French oak before being transferred to a different set of new French oak barrels for 18 months of aging. Glycerin oozes down the glass of this remarkably rich effort. Purple/black colored, it offers up a brooding nose of licorice, fresh tar, black cherry, and blackberry. On the palate it is full-bodied, dense, and chewy, but in balance. This behemoth demands 8-10 years of cellaring but should ultimately reward patient cellaring in a big way. Bodegas Teso La Monja is the Eguren family’s new project in Toro featuring a state of the art winery and old vines of Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo). Dense, layered, incipiently complex, and powerful, it is more structured than the Alto Moncayo and will benefit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2015-2037. The Wine Advocate: Ribera del Duero is Spain’s most rapidly growing wine zone, now approximating one-third the production of Rioja, much of the growth occurring in just the last decade. Here Tempranillo is the undisputed king grape. There is considerable excitement in Ribera del Duero these days. The 2009 vintage will probably be the best for ever for most producers (since only Vega Sicilia and Pesquera have much history). What I tasted from barrel is truly extraordinary. The only close comparison is 2004. Among other vintages, 2005 has turned out some high-class wines but it is more irregular than 2004. The 2008 vintage was nearly a great one but frost during harvest caused difficulty so the vintage is merely very good to excellent. The years 2006 and 2007 had their issues but there are plenty of good wines. The same can be said for 2003 where the top producers were able to deal with the heat and knew when to pick. 2002 was a difficult year while 2001 is one of the top 3 of the decade. Jay Miller. | |

The Wine Advocate: The 2011 Vega Sicilia Unico Especial Release is rich, spicy, and complex. It has impeccable balance and another 20 years of life. It simply does not get any better. When you consider that the Reserva Especial sells for less than half the price of a Bordeaux First Growth (and you don’t have to wait for 20 years for it to be approachable) it is one of the great bargains in world-class wine. Bodegas Vega Sicilia remains a benchmark for the world’s great red wines. The Valbuena bottling receives 3 years in barrel and 2 years in bottle prior to release. On the occasion of my visit in May 2010, the three Reserva Especials already in bottle and awaiting release were tasted side by side. They are identified (for the purposes of this review only) as the 2013 Release, the 2012 Release, and the 2011 Release. I was not told what vintages are in each bottling but it actually makes little difference. The Reserva Especials are blended to a house style designed to reflect Vega Sicilia at its very best. The vagaries of vintage (as reflected in Unico) are blended away leaving a wine that is, in my opinion, better than any of the single vintage wines with the possible exception of the 1942. The Wine Advocate: The 2005 Gran Claustro is essentially the same blend as the 2005 and spent 14 months in new French oak. More deeply colored as well as structured, it will reward another 5-6 years of cellaring. It has a drinking window extending from 2015 to 2022. I was also presented with a vertical tasting of Gran Claustro dating back to 1993. | Beschreibung: | 100% Albariño. 96 Parker Punkte. Ein Wein des aufstrebenden Kultwinzers RAUL PEREZ. Nur in beschränkter Anzahl verfügbar. Es gilt das Prinzip first come - first serve! Traubengut stammt aus einer einzigen Parzelle mit 40-jährigen Weinstöcken. Vom Sketch werden nur gerade 1800 Flaschen produziert. Der Vorgängerjahrgang 2008 wurde im Wine Advocate mit 95 Punkte ausgezeichnet. Dieser Albarino ist einzigartig und wie Jay Miller schreibt: "unlike anything you have tasted before." Der Wein reifte für 12 Monate in zwei speziellen 700-Liter Eichenfässern. Nach der Flaschenabfüllung liess Raul Perez die Flaschen für 60 Tage in einer Tiefe von 30 Metern auf dem Meeresgrund unter konstanter Temperatur und Lichtverhältnissen weiterreifen, bevor die Flaschen nach der Säuberung etikettiert wurden, wobei Raul Perez die Jahrgangsbezeichnung nicht vermerken lässt. Das Ergebnis : Ein Albariño, voll-fruchtig, ein Hauch von Meersalz, Zitrusfrucht, Gewürze, Blumenblüten, mineralische Note die an einen Riesling denken lassen. Ausgezeichnet als Genusswein, zu Schalentieren oder Meeresfrüchten. The Wine Advocate: The exception is the 2009 Sketch, an Albarino sourced from a parcel harvested 1-2 weeks later than all the other vineyards. It was fermented and aged (without malolactic) in two 700-liter barrels for 12 months followed by 60 days of aging in the bottle at 30 meters under the sea. It offers up an enthralling bouquet of mineral, saline, floral, tropical, and marzipan elements. Intense, complex, impeccably balanced, and remarkably lengthy, this is as good as Albarino gets.
